Tell a friend to look west

A Sky Call is a card that says look west, now, with the score, the city and the sunset time. Same Sky pairs your chip with a friend's from another city on the same evening. Both travel as links, with no account, no feed and no server holding the data.

What is a Sky Call?

It is a share card for the moment the sky is doing something. Tap Tell friends to look on the Tonight screen and Afterhue builds a card with the line Look west. Now., the city, the band and the sunset time. It goes out through the iOS share sheet to a group chat, a story or a message. If the sunset has already passed, the card shows tomorrow instead.

Free users can send Sky Calls. You can sign the card with a name of up to 16 characters, which goes only into the link.

What happens when a friend opens it?

With the app installed, the link opens the call inside Afterhue, shows what your friend said about the sky, then your own sunset time and band, and offers Check my sky or Catch mine. A call that has gone stale says which date it was for and shows your sky tonight instead. A broken link shows a plain message asking your friend to send it again.

What is Same Sky?

Send a chip to a friend and they can pair it with one of theirs, ideally from the same evening in another city. Afterhue builds a two-panel card titled Two skies, one evening, with both palettes side by side. Both of you can post it.

  1. Open one of your chips and tap Pair with a friend.
  2. Share the chip link.
  3. Your friend opens it and picks Pair with their own chip from that date.
  4. Afterhue builds the two-sky card for them to share.

What is inside a link?

A Sky Call link carries the city name, score, band, sunset time, a direction and your optional signature. A chip link carries the palette, name, date, city, score and rating. No coordinates, no photo. The data sits after the # in the address, which browsers do not send to any server. The privacy page has the full account.

What do the cards look like?

Cards come in a 9:16 story size and a square. Paper is the free style. Night and Photo are Pro. Every card carries the Afterhue name, the link and a QR code, and cards that show a score credit Apple Weather.

When should I send a Sky Call?

While there is still time to go outside. The card carries a countdown, Sunset in 42 min, so the friend can see how long they have. A Sky Call needs no account on either side, and it goes out through the normal iOS share sheet, so it works in any chat app that accepts a link or an image.

What happens to a chip a friend sends me?

The link opens as A friend's sunset, with the chip's name, city and palette. You can keep it in Friends' skies, pair it with one of your own, or ignore it. Opening a link does not add anything to your collection by itself, and nothing is sent back to the sender.
