Afterhue vs Sun Seeker: will it glow, or where will the sun be?
Sun Seeker is a solar tracking and compass app with an augmented reality view that shows where the sun is and will be at any time. Afterhue is a sunset score: it asks whether the sky will light up tonight and keeps the evenings you catch. They answer different questions and work well side by side.

What is the main difference?
Sun Seeker is about geometry. Its listing describes sun direction, hourly intervals, the solstice and equinox paths, sunrise and sunset times, twilight, shadow and golden hour, shown on a compass, a map and an AR camera view. Afterhue is about weather and memory. It estimates how colorful tonight's sky will be from cloud layers, air and rain, then turns each sunset you photograph into a color chip.
Competitor facts were checked on October 10, 2026 against the US App Store listing and describe the app as of October 2026. Afterhue is made by the publisher of this site, is in development and is not on the App Store yet, so it has no rating and no listed price.

What does Sun Seeker do better?
Anything about where the sun will be. The AR view overlays the sun's path on the camera, the surveyor view shows the solar direction for each sunlight hour, and you can choose any date and any location, including more than 40,000 cities available offline. It is also used for real-estate checks, gardening and shadow planning, so it has uses well outside sunsets. It has been on the App Store since 2009 and was updated on October 9, 2026, with a very large base of ratings.
If you want to know whether the sun will set behind a particular hill on a particular date, Sun Seeker is the right tool. Afterhue does not have an AR view or a map of the sun path.
What does Afterhue do better?
It tells you whether the sky is likely to be worth the walk. The Glow Score combines high and mid clouds, low clouds toward the sun, air and rain, and shows the reasons so you can check them against the sky. The score is an estimate and is labeled that way. A free golden-hour reminder repeats on its own, and Pro Glow alerts fire only above the band you set.
Afterhue also keeps what you catch. Each photo becomes a Hue Chip with five colors and a number, and a year becomes a Sky Strip.
Which is better for planning a photo?
Use both. Sun Seeker answers where to stand and when the sun will line up. Afterhue answers whether the evening is worth the trip and reminds you before golden hour. The direction logic is the same one explained in which direction the sun sets, and the scouting steps are in how to find the best sunset spot.
Who should pick which?
- Choose Sun Seeker if you need sun position, AR, shadows or a compass for photography, building or gardening.
- Choose Afterhue if you want a weather-based score with reasons, a reminder that follows the sunset and a log of your evenings.
- Use both if you plan shoots: Sun Seeker for the where, Afterhue for the whether.

Frequently asked questions
Is Afterhue an alternative to Sun Seeker?
Not directly. Sun Seeker tracks the sun's position and path with AR and a compass. Afterhue estimates how colorful the sky will be and keeps your sunsets. Many people would want both.
Does Afterhue have an AR sun path?
No. Afterhue shows sun times and a timeline of the sun's height, not an AR view or a map of the sun's path.
Does Sun Seeker forecast sunset quality?
Its listing describes sun position, times and shadows, not a weather-based quality forecast.
Which app has an Apple Watch version?
Sun Seeker's listing shows Apple Watch support. Afterhue is an iPhone app.
Do both work offline?
Sun Seeker lists offline cities for its sun data. Afterhue computes sun times on the iPhone, though its score needs a forecast.
