Afterhue vs Sunsethue: two ways to ask if the sunset is worth it

By · Updated · 2 min read

Sunsethue is a newer sunset forecaster that is free without an account for up to three days ahead, with paid alerts, maps and widgets. Afterhue scores tonight with reasons and keeps a color chip for every sunset you catch. The two overlap on the forecast and differ on what comes after.

What is the main difference?

Sunsethue lists quality forecasts up to three days ahead from its own ray-based model, plus cloud cover by altitude, rarity and uncertainty, all without an account. Afterhue gives one Glow Score from Apple WeatherKit data and keeps what you caught.

Competitor facts were checked on October 10, 2026 against the US App Store listings. Apps change, so verify before you commit. Afterhue is made by the publisher of this site, is in development and is not on the App Store yet, so it has no rating and no listed price.

What does Sunsethue do better?

It gives away more of the forecast. Its listing says the three-day forecast, golden and blue hour, cloud cover by altitude, sun visibility at the horizon, rarity and uncertainty are available free, with no account or permissions. Maps and widgets sit in the paid tier. It has few ratings yet (22), so its record is short, and it supports one language per its listing.

What does Afterhue do better?

It keeps a sky log. A free repeating golden-hour reminder comes first, then a Hue Chip for each sunset, a Sky Strip for the year and Sky Calls for friends. The Glow Score lists reasons in words, and after three ratings it adapts to your sky. On the free plan, the 3-day outlook is limited to tomorrow's band.

Who should pick which?

  • Choose Sunsethue if you want a multi-day forecast with no account and no payment.
  • Choose Afterhue if you want reasons, a reminder and a color memory of each sunset.
  • Both sell a lifetime option for paid features.
